Volunteer.
Run the program.

Without volunteers, the program doesn't run. Here's how every type of family can help — chaperone trips, work concessions, build props, or run the Classic. Every shift counts.

First steps

What you need to get going.

PCS Form Required for everyone — submit once.
Level 2 Needed for chaperone roles.
Sign-Up Genius Where shifts are posted.
Classic Day October — the one day everyone helps.

01Why volunteers matter

Without our amazing volunteers, the ELHS Band Program would not be a success. The program runs on parent labor — concessions on Friday nights, chaperones at competitions, bake sales at the Classic, prop builds in someone's garage. Every hour you give returns to the students.

ELHS Band offers many ways for parents and other family members to be involved. You don't need a music background. You don't need a Level 2 PCS clearance for most roles. You just need willingness.

02Volunteer roles

  • Booster Board / Executive. President, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, and committee chairs. Year-long commitments.
  • Chaperoning. Car washes, home and away football games, marching competitions. Level 2 clearance required.
  • Concession stand. Work the stand during home football games or at the Classic. Major fundraiser.
  • Classic competition (October). The biggest single-day event of the year. See the featured callout below.
  • Classic Program / Sponsorships. Manage advertiser outreach and assemble the printed program.
  • Props. Build props the band uses during marching and winter guard seasons. Garage tinkerers welcome.
  • Special events. Parent Preview, Tag Days, Band Banquet, Spirit Nights, PRISM concert, Ice Breaker, and more.
  • Spirit Wear. Manage Silver Sound spirit-wear inventory; sell at events throughout the school year.
  • Transportation (trailer towing). Tow the band's equipment trailer. Loaded trailer is approximately 7,000 lbs with tongue weight exceeding 600 lbs. Equipped with electric brakes and a 7-prong plug — review your vehicle's towing guide. We have a load-leveling hitch available.
  • Uniforms. Organize and oversee marching uniform cleaning; volunteer to wash uniforms during marching season.
FEATURED · OCTOBER

The East Lake Classic.

The Classic is the largest single-day fundraiser of our year — an FMBC regional marching band competition we host on our own campus. This event is a major reason fair share fees stay reasonable and the program stays strong.

We've hosted 12+ bands and have the reputation of running a friendly, well-organized show. We're also known as "the show with the bake sale" — so don't be afraid to break out the oven mitts.

There is no shortage of jobs to ensure everyone's safety. We need volunteers in the parking lots, at wristband checkpoints, providing first aid, manning water stations, greeting bands, judge and director hospitality, working concessions, and assisting with the bake sale, spirit wear, and band-grams.

Day-of volunteer roles:

Parking lot crew
Wristband checkpoints
First aid station
Water stations
Band greeters
Judge & director hospitality
Concession stand
Bake sale
Spirit wear & band-grams
Ticket window

Pre-event planning roles (start ~2 months out):

Sponsorship outreach
Program design & printing
On-site vendor coordination
Judge accommodations
Local donation outreach
Equipment logistics
If you can only help with one day this school year, this is the one.

03Become a volunteer

To volunteer with the band, complete the Pinellas County Schools Volunteer Registration Form. Information is on the PCS volunteer webpage. Many band volunteer opportunities don't require Level 2; chaperone roles do.

Level 2 offers additional security clearance for our students and is required for any PCS chaperone role. For details on the Level 2 process, review the PCS Level 2 volunteer page.

If you need help registering, contact ELHS Volunteer Coordinator Natasha Gallaty at gallatyn@pcsb.org or 727.942.5419.

04Already a volunteer?

All volunteers must reactivate their PCS Portal volunteer account each year. Log in to your existing account using your v.account credentials:

05Tracking volunteer hours

PCS requests that all volunteers track their hours through the PCS Portal volunteer account. The Volunteer Hours Log doesn't need to be completed after every event — input daily, weekly, or monthly. The total counts toward school recognition and helps PCS see the scale of family support.

The program runs because you showed up.

One shift. One Friday night. One Classic Saturday. That's how a 200+ member band program stays on the field.
