The East Lake Jazz Ensemble operates throughout the year. Membership is open to any ELHS student, with the Director's discretion for placement. Big-band format, jazz idiom focus, and steady gigs and festivals through the year.
The East Lake High School Jazz Ensemble operates throughout the year. Membership is open to any ELHS student. At the Director's discretion, auditions may take place to determine placement within the group.
Rehearsals are daily during class with occasional sectionals after school. Other activities include occasional after-school sectionals and Saturday performances, quarterly concerts, FBA District MPA, and various festivals and "gig" opportunities. Students develop deep listening skills, transcription practice, improvisation, and controlled development of the jazz idiom using Aebersold books and materials.
